Finished Gauge
US7 5 stitches x 7.5 rows = 1”
Needles and Size
US 7 16” circular needle for 22” – 23” head circumference
A set of US 7 double pointed needles (DPNs)

CO: Cast on
K: Knit
K2tog: Knit 2 stitches together P: Purl
SSK: Slip Slip Knit PM: Place marker SM: Slip marker

Cable Abbreviations
C6B: Slip 3 sts onto cable needle and hold at back of work, knit next 3 sts from left-hand needle, then knit 3 sts from cable needle.
C6F: Slip 3 sts onto cable needle and hold at front of work, knit next 3 sts from left-hand needle, then knit 3 sts from cable needle.
Cast On – Preferably, Long tail cat on.
CO 121 sts on a circular needle. Once CO last 1 st, slip the first stitch to the right needles and pass over the stitch with the last CO stitch to join. PM. You have 120 sts in total.
Brim
Round 1 – 15: K2 P2 rib stiches.
Round 16: K2 P2 rib stiches. PM every 12 sts for 9 times.
Braid Cable
Round 17 – 18: (K10 P2) x 9
Round 19: (K1 C6F K3 P2) x 9
Round 20 – 22: (K10 P2) x 9
Round 23: (K4 C6B P2) x 9
Row 24: (K10 P2) x 9
Round 25 – 80: Repeat Round 17 – 24.
Shaping the Crown (Switch to DPNs)
Round 81 – 82: (K10 P2) x 9

10 sts remains, gather the top of hat and close it. Weave in all yarn tails or yarn ends.
Pompom/Faux Fur Pompom
You can use a faux fur pompom or a handmade pompom. Attach the faux fur pompom accordingly.
You can use a pompom maker. Use a 3 3/8-inch (large size) pompom maker or you can use desired size. Wrap about 400 wraps. (200 wraps each side). Trim the pompom and attach it to the hat.
Making a Pompom (Cardboard Method)
Cut a small rectangle of cardboard and wrap yarn around it many times. Slide the yarn off carefully. Tie tightly in the center. Cut the loops and trim into a ball shape. Attach it to the hat.
